McMillan & Co was established by Douglas McMillan in October 1995 when he and a team left KPMG in Preston with a portfolio of clients.
Our team has a wealth of experience in advising individuals and businesses in the North West. Our ethos is to provide the very best in client service through close personal contact, speed of response and value for money by understanding your issues and offering creative, thoughtful and pro-active business advice.
We are a nominated training office for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England & Wales and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.

Douglas McMillan
Douglas qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG in Manchester and after a spell in London became a Partner in their Preston office in October 1977.
He focuses on corporate finance and business advisory work and holds the Financial Planning Certificate.

Douglas is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and is a Registered Statutory Auditor.
He was President of the North West Society of Chartered Accountants from 1991 to 1992.

Neil McMillan
Neil joined McMillan & Co in January 2010 to work alongside his father, Douglas. Neil qualified as a Chartered Accountant at KPMG in Leeds where he was the Department Senior Manager in the Audit Practice, with direct responsibilities for a team of 40 staff.

Bernard McLaughlin
Bernard trained with a small firm before joining KPMG, eventually becoming Senior Manager of their Business Services Department. He joined Douglas in setting up McMillan & Co in 1995.
Bernard provides a wide range of accountancy and advisory services to small and medium sized businesses.

Trixie Reynolds
Trixie gained a Bachelor of Law Honours degree before joining KPMG in Preston where she qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser. She is part of the original team that joined McMillan & Co in 1995.
She specialises in personal and corporate tax planning and compliance.

Dave Rogerson
Dave joined KPMG in 1984 and has been working with Douglas and Bernard ever since! He qualified with the Association of Accounting Technicians in 1988 and with the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants in 1994.
Dave is involved with a whole range of clients from large to small and specialises in accounts preparation, management accounting and management information reporting, audit and tax.

Valerie Holland
Valerie qualified as a Chartered Accountant with a small local firm before moving to KPMG and subsequently to McMillan & Co in 1995. She prides herself on being able to offer an all-round service to smaller clients (sole traders, partnerships, professional partnerships and small family companies). She can offer help and advice on bookkeeping, VAT, PAYE, accounting matters, personal tax and corporate tax.

Amanda Calderbank
Amanda qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG and following a spell working in South Africa returned to the UK to join McMillan & Co in 2005. Amanda specialises in delivering audits and advising clients on internal controls.

Alison Southworth
Alison joined McMillan & Co in 2000 and qualified as Chartered Certified Accountant in 2008.
Her principle focus is the delivery of accountancy and audit services to our clients.

Sue Lewis
Sue has worked in a number of accounting departments within companies both in England and in the USA, where she lived for 12 years.
Sue started with McMillan & Co in 2004 in the position of Practice Secretary. She has since taken her Accountancy Technician exams and specialises in VAT, book-keeping and the preparation of accounts of small companies and charities.

Cathy Wolff
Cathy joined McMillan & Co in January 2007 having “emigrated” from Essex a few years earlier. She has eighteen years’ experience of administration and company secretarial work within accountancy firms.
Cathy heads up our company secretarial services, oversees new company formations, and is usually the first voice you will hear when you phone us.

Jean McLaughlin runs our Payroll Bureau and has over 15 years experience in this role.
